During the ten years since the 'Rio Summit', the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development have thus become declared policy goals at local, national and international levels.

Whilst national and local governments have central role to play to pursuit of sustainable development, it is equally clear that the role of local business is crucial, as an initiator of new ideas and approaches and facilitator of local action and initiative.
