Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada’s busiest airport. In 2006, 31 million passengers passed through its gates – and with passenger traffic expected to reach 50 million by 2020, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the airport, has developed a 10-year expansion and redevelopment plan to accommodate this rapidly increasing demand.This 10-year plan has already seen the construction of new terminals, parking facilities and a shopping center. The Dufferin Group, a Holcim company in Canada, has been involved in the project and has already delivered 200,000 m3 of concrete in accordance with special production and short-distance delivery procedures.
Dufferin specialists supply the construction sites with four different kinds of concrete. For example, self-compacting concrete is used for the large pillars in the terminal hall and the parking facility, and concrete reinforced with steel fibers is used as a foundation for the airport’s terrazzo flooring.
