Capacity expansion
Print
Through plant expansions and the construction of new facilities, we are increasing our cement capacity, and creating a strong foundation for future growth.

During 2008, Holcim commissioned 1.5 million tonnes of cement capacity Group-wide. As of the end of 2008, Holcim also has capacity expansion projects under way involving 25.9 million tonnes. By the end of 2011, plant expansions and new facilities will have increased Group capacity to around 218 million tonnes of cement.

Holcim expects the expansion of production (see table below), costing CHF 6.5 billion, to result in an additional EBITDA contribution of around CHF 950 million a year as of 2012; CHF 470 million per year already from 2010.

All facilities must meet the highest technological standards and environmental efficiency. New plants are usually built where Group companies already have solid market positions and secure reserves of raw materials.
