Holcim currently has 28.9 million tonnes of committed
and approved cement expansion projects. In 2007, Holcim commissioned Group-wide
6.7 million tonnes of capacity, 4.6 million of
that in India alone. By the end of 2011, it is estimated
that plant expansions and construction of
new facilities will have increased Group cement
capacity to around 227 million tonnes, thus creating
a strong foundation for future growth. All facilities
meet the highest technological standards in terms
of costs and environmental efficiency. New capacities
are usually built in existing plant locations, where the
Group companies have robust market positions and
secure raw material reserves.
As a result of expanding production (see table below)
in the amount of CHF 6.5 billion, Holcim expects an
annual EBITDA contribution of around CHF 1.1 billion
as of 2012; CHF 550 million per year already from
2010.
The Group is also investing in the areas of aggregates
and ready-mix concrete. Projects and acquisitions
are concentrated on Europe and North America, and
for ready-mix concrete in the major urban centers
in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
