Human rights
Holcim’s commitment to human rights is embedded in our CSR policy and reflected in our support of the UN Global Compact. Group company line management is responsible for communication, monitoring and implementation of specific programs based on need, and in some cases, a human rights impacts assessment was commissioned to support our operations.
Upholding human rights
In our annual survey, 61% of Group companies reported that employees received training on equal opportunities policies and procedures, and 30% of Group companies reported that they received training on human rights policies and procedures. In addition, 61% of Group companies reported that human rights impacts are considered when taking major investment decisions.

All Group companies apply global Holcim standards and each takes appropriate measures to protect the company from the risks prevalent in that country. For example, in 2007, 10 Group companies identified a country risk of child labor, four identified a risk of incidents of forced or compulsory labor and five noted a risk to freedom of association.

Our CSR capacity-building projects can include human-rights-related activities, such as access to shelter, equality and non-discrimination, health and safety, the right to education and the rights of women. Our approach is collaborative, and stakeholders are involved in all phases of implementation.
