The Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, established 2003, promotes
sustainable responses to the technological, environmental, socioeconomic and
cultural issues affecting building and construction at the national, regional
and global levels. The Holcim Foundation is supported by Holcim Ltd and its
Group companies worldwide, but independent of commercial interests.
To encourage innovative approaches to
sustainable construction, the foundation conducts activities including: the
USD 2 million Holcim
Awards competition;
Holcim Forum symposium; and
Holcim Grants seed
funding for building initiatives and grants for PhD research.

Global Holcim Awards Gold 2009 hand-over in Fez July 16,
2009 – A comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the Medina of Fez by an
international team from Morocco, Canada, the Netherlands and USA received the
Holcim Awards Gold and USD 300,000 presented by Holcim CEO Markus Akermann
(right) at a ceremony in Fez, Morocco.
