Holcim Ltd is one of the leading companies in sustainability worldwide. The Group has been confirmed as a member of the DJSI World Index in 2009/2010 in the building materials industry. Holcim has been included in both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index for seven years.

According to the DJSI assessment, the Group is successfully addressing core sustainability issues related to its industry. In 2009, Holcim’s recycling strategy, its human capital development, its corporate citizenship approach and its engagement with stakeholders received top scores.

Holcim had been named “Leader of the Industry” in the DJSI Index from 2005 to 2008 and was thus acknowledged as the company with the best sustainability performance in the building materials industry for four consecutive years. Although Panasonic Electric Works Co Ltd from Japan took this position in the recently published 2009 DJSI results, Holcim remains committed to being ‘best in class’ and constantly improving its sustainability performance.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index was the first global index to track and assess the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The Dow Jones World Index comprises the top 10 percent of the biggest 2,500 companies globally. The Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (Europe) includes 20 percent of the best placed companies in the Dow Jones STOXXSM 600 Index. Analysis is based on an annual assessment of general and industry specific sustainability criteria undertaken by Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) Group.
