| Holcim Singapore developed an innovative ultra high-strength, high-performance concrete that saves resources because particularly bridges, fly-overs and shear walls of high-rise buildings can be constructed with significantly lower volumes of concrete. The product with the name Holcim Supercrete HS was GreenLabelled by Singapore’s Environment Council for its low CO2-emissions and for preserving natural resources.

Eco-efficiency is at the core of Holcim’s business. Therefore one very important goal is to use fewer resources. In the cement production – cement is the chief ingredient of concrete - this might be achieved during the production process or by adjusting the composition of the product. To heat up the kiln for example Alternative Fuels can be burnt instead of fossil fuels; recycled concrete and asphalt debris can replace virgin aggregates in the manufacturing of concrete.

Holcim Supercrete HS is a product developed by Holcim Singapore and fits perfectly in the portfolio of eco-efficient products. The ultra high-strength, high-performance concrete has a very low CO2 footprint, low shrinkage, high durability and is easily placeable without vibration as it is self-levelling. Compared to normal high-strength concretes, Holcim Supercrete HS usage has the potential to lower concrete consumption by up to 50% and provides “leaner” beams, columns and slabs in a building, thereby increasing the available commercial space significantly, alongwith lower foundation costs as the dead weight of the building gets vastly lowered. This, however, results in an increase in the service life of the structure.

Broadened Scope for Design
Besides being environmentally friendly and benefiting customers, the new product broadens architects’ scope for design. They can now draw high-rise buildings with slender columns and a delicacy that would not have been realistic to build before.
Possible areas of use for this product that is on the market since December 2008 are bridges, fly-overs, concrete columns encasing steel and shear walls of high-rise buildings.

GreenLabel for Holcim Supercrete HS
Holcim Supercrete HS’ low CO2 emissions and preservation of natural resources were accredited by Singapore’s Environment Council as it was given the GreenLabel. It is another showpiece of Holcim’s commitment to sustainability that is publicly recognized.
