The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a coalition of some 200 international companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development via the three pillars of economic growth, ecological balance and social progress.

Holcim joined the WBCSD in 1999 and has been an active member since the beginning. CEO Markus Akermann is a Vice Chair of the WBCSD and a member of their executive committee. The Holcim Liason Delegate is Benedikt Vonnegut, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of Holcim Ltd. We also maintain an active voice in Council initiatives in the area of Energy & Climate, Accountability, Ecosystems, Sustainable Livelihoods and talent leadership development.

Holcim sees many benefits to its WBCSD membership. Most importantly, however, is the opportunity to assist in the development of WBCSD policies as well as challenge our own SD performance in a public setting in association with like-minded peers. As a founding member of the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), we are also able to look at the issues from our own industry perspective.
