An integral part of the Holcim brand around the world is our commitment to sustainable development, and the progress we are making in Indonesia has been encouraging. This includes ensuring fair business practices are in place, maintaining a sound and responsible approach to managing the environmental impact of our operations and the development and maintenance of good relations with both our employees and nearby communities. Manufacturing performance reviews, the use of alternative fuels and improvements in deployment of capacity have been just three areas in which we have gained measurable results. We have reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions while raising output and improving the quality of our product. This is vital for us to respond to the challenge of meeting demand for cement and concrete as Indonesia’s economy gathers momentum. The key to all of this lies in taking responsibility for what we do, to meet the needs of the present day in Indonesia without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The building materials industry in Indonesia has a bright future and at Holcim we are playing a leading role in supporting home builders, high rise office, apartment and retail developments, power projects, bridge building and other infrastructure needs: to ensure a better quality of life for everyone now and for generations to come.
