Our ability to make cement, concrete, aggregates and burnt lime for New Zealanders depends on the use of natural resources. With this in mind, in the early 1990's Holcim embarked on a comprehensive review of its environmental performance.
This was against a background of increasing awareness about the use of natural resources, higher expectations in communities about standards of site and plant operations and higher environmental standards being proposed for a range of production processes.
The issue of climate change also began to focus attention on the company's cement manufacturing which emits the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. As environmental awareness progressed, within Holcim and its communities the concept of sustainable use of natural resources as a basis for the Company's ecomonic activities emerged.
Our cement, aggregates and concrete are often transformed into structures of beauty and inspiration that mirror New Zealand's environment. Holcim is now on the journey of achieving environmental excellence in all our operations.
