The Westport option

One of the two priority options being considered by Holcim New Zealand to meet long term growth in demand for cement involves continuation of the existing Westport plant (with an appropriate maintenance and capital works programme) in combination with supporting imports on a bulk basis.

Over several years, significant investigative work was carried out on this option including:

  • Exploratory drilling of potential mineral reserves at Westport
  • An engineering appraisal of the plant
  • Because transportation of cement to New Zealand ports is an important consideration, work was also carried out on analysing future shipping needs together with port infrastructure.

Further work focused on ongoing plant operational needs, environmental considerations and port infrastructure.

Because Westport Works is an existing plant, we have in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the operation and the environment.
