New member to be proposed to Board of Directors

Dr Andreas von Planta is to be proposed for election to the Holcim Board of Directors at the 2003 Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders. He is to replace Dr Peter Kurer, who will be stepping down from the Holcim Board at the end of 2002 following his appointment to the Group Executive Board of UBS AG.

The Board of Directors of Holcim Ltd will be proposing to the 91st Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on June 4, 2003 that Dr Andreas von Planta (47) be elected to its number. Andreas von Planta is a partner with Lenz & Staehelin, an international law firm based in Geneva. He studied law at the University of Basel, obtaining a doctorate there in 1981. In 1983, he completed an LL.M. at the Columbia University in New York. As an attorney and partner with Lenz & Staehelin, Andreas von Planta has accumulated a wealth of experience in international business and company law.As announced at the Holcim Ordinary General Meeting this year in connection with the proposed re-elections, attorney-at-law Dr Peter Kurer will, in accordance with Switzerland's corporate governance rules, be relinquishing his Board mandate effective end of 2002 following his appointment to the Group Executive Board of UBS AG. Peter Kurer was elected to the Board of Directors of Holcim Ltd at the 1996 General Meeting.
