Chairman

Beat Hess has been a member of the Board of Directors of Holcim since 2010 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2016. He is considered independent according to the Swiss Code of Best Practice for Corporate Governance.

Background

A Swiss national born in 1949, Beat holds a doctorate in law and is admitted to the bar in Switzerland. He began his career in 1977, working as Legal Counsel, then General Counsel for the ABB Group up until 2003. In 2004, he became Legal Director and a member of the Executive Committee of the Royal Dutch Shell Group, working in London and The Hague until the end of 2010. From 2008 to 2020, Beat was a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman’s and Corporate Governance Committee, and Chairperson of the Compensation Committee of Nestlé S.A., Vevey, Switzerland. Between 2008 and 2021, he was Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Directors and Member of the Nomination and Compensation Committee of Sonova Holding AG, Stäfa, Switzerland.
