Holcim and Systemiq roundtable at Goals House: Unleashing a Regenerative Revolution for the Built Environment

Today's built environment delivers the essentials for human life – from housing to sanitation and transport – on an astonishing scale. With evolving infrastructure needs, the sector has an opportunity to embark on a gradual transformation whereby our cities, neighborhoods and built places become the engines of a thriving future where humans and nature coevolve.

Holcim and Systemiq launched a new approach that explores how to unleash a regenerative revolution in the built environment. It aims for positive, life-enhancing outcomes for both people and nature that go beyond merely doing ‘less harm’. It calls on pioneers to experiment with regenerative frameworks and metrics on live built environment projects, which will form the core of the moderated discussion.

Cédric de Meeûs, Vice President of Group Public Affairs & Social Impact, Holcim

"We can do better than just sustainable building – we can put people and nature at the center of the built environment. All of you are the agents of change – join us in speeding up this regenerative revolution."
Nollaig Forrest, Chief Sustainability Officer, Holcim

"This is our moment to get it right: ambition with the right design, translation into a metric, and mobilizing capital around the right things. And this is the group that’s going to be integral to unleashing this regenerative revolution."
Jeremy Oppenheim, Founder, Systemiq

"Leaders in city government need to facilitate and inspire more collaboration between urban planners, architects, builders and the communities themselves. We also need to be responsive to both the changing climate and the housing challenge. Partnerships between the project delivery community and the people our projects are designed to serve will help cities be more flexible to addressing these demands."
Alison Landry, Chief Infrastructure Officer, New York City

"A circular built environment has always been a design agenda so we keep materials in use for as long as possible and maximize their use. And it’s a large economic opportunity to deliver to nature and communities by building materiality, circularity and nature into building design. There is intent in many companies we’re working with to explore how to bring this thinking into real world projects."
Andrew Morlet, CEO, Ellen MacArthur Foundation

At Holcim we want to ignite a regenerative revolution in the built environment - using our sustainable building solutions, and partnering across the value chain to scale low-carbon, circular, energy efficient building.
