Holcim Sustainable Construction Academy driving circular, low-carbon and regenerative design.
To accelerate the shift to a circular, low-carbon and regenerative built environment, we launched the Holcim Sustainable Construction Academy to engage and upskill built environment professionals to integrate the principles of sustainable design.
With a curriculum designed by Holcim’s experts and our partners from leading research institutions and architecture and engineering firms, the Holcim Sustainable Construction Academy is a free online and CPD-certified training program that equips built environment professionals with all the tools they need to measure the impact of their building project and lead the sustainable construction transition by making informed decisions from very early on in the design process.
Transforming buildings into carbon sinks.
As the leading partner for sustainable construction, Holcim is pioneering innovation in our sector to bring game-changing solutions tailored to our customers’ most ambitious needs. That’s why we partnered with Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena and his firm ELEMENTAL to present a new biochar technology that transforms buildings into carbon sinks.
Holcim and ELEMENTAL are using this carbon sink technology for the first time in a full-scale Basic Services Unit housing prototype, presented in Venice during the 2025 Architecture Biennale. Built using our specially-created net zero* biochar concrete, the prototype also incorporates circularity, with 100% recycled aggregates inside.
*scope of concrete production phases (A1-A3) in Life Cycle Assessment. Assumes average transportation distance of 300km for cement and filler & 100km for aggregates.
