Holcim to strengthen market presence in Bulgaria

9 December 2003

Holcim Ltd has had a firm foothold in the Bulgarian market since 1997 through its Holcim (Bulgaria) A.D. Group company. The plant in Beli Izvor is situated around 120 kilometers north of Sofia and has a production capacity of approximately 650,000 tons of cement. Now, subject to approval from the relevant competition authority, Holcim will acquire all shares in Plevenski Cement A.D. from the Greek-based Titan Cement Company S.A. Plevenski Cement A.D. operates the Pleven plant, also situated in northern Bulgaria, which has a production capacity of 500,000 tons. The deal enables Holcim to substantially expand its market presence in Bulgaria.

To complete the deal, Holcim will sell its minority participation in the Macedonian A.D. Cementarnica Usje to Titan Cement.
