"Holderbank" Group company UMAR enters Nigerian market.

UMAR S.A., the international trading organization of "Holderbank" Financière Glaris Ltd. ("Holderbank"), has taken a minority stake of 40 percent in Eastern Bulkcem Co. Ltd. (EBC) in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and assumes management responsibility.


EBC imports bulk cement through its terminal located in Port Harcourt, and distributes bagged and bulk cement in the local market.


The company has been operating since 1981 and owns feeder vessels and barges to supply the silo from the ocean going vessels.

With sales of over 0.7 million tonnes of cement in 1999, EBC is the leading distributor of cement in the region of Port Harcourt.

UMAR is active in the international cement market, as well as in related products and solid fuels. The trading volume exceeds 15 million tonnes per year.

With majority and minority interests in over 60 countries on all continents, "Holderbank" is one of the world's leading suppliers of cement, as well as aggregates (gravel and sand), concrete and construction-related services.
