Lafarge and Hurricane Katrina: an update

7 September 2005

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to all those who have been hard hit by Hurricane Katrina in the Southeast of the United States.

The majority of our employees in the regions ravaged by the hurricane have been located and are safe and well, but those in Louisiana have suffered substantial losses of property. Teams from our subsidiary Lafarge North America are mobilized to give them assistance and support.

The material damages to our operations based in Louisiane, 15 concrete plants and one cement terminal, appear to be minimal. The Group operations in other affected regions did not suffer any damage.

The efforts of our teams in the United-States remain focused on helping our employees and their families, who have been severely impacted by the hurricane, on supporting the NGOs working in the area and on contributing to the rebuilding of the levees.
