Lafarge shareholding in Cimpor passes above 5% threshold

25 July 2000

The Lafarge Group announces that its shareholding in the Portuguese company, Cimpor, has passed above the 5% threshold.

Lafarge points out that it does not intend to launch a raised bid to counter the current Secilpar, SL bid, mounted together by Holderbank Financière Glaris, SA and Secil (Companhia Geral de Cal e Cimento SA).

However, should their bid fail, Lafarge believes that the significant stake it holds in the capital of Cimpor will strengthen the stability of the company's shareholding, so guaranteeing its independence, its integrity and its capacity to pursue international development, while enabling it to call on the support of a world leader in construction materials.
