- Scaling up Environment Product Declarations in line with worldwide building standards
- Building on Holcim’s ECOPact low-carbon concrete verification in North America
- Expanding verified sustainable building solutions to accelerate green demand
Holcim and Climate Earth partner to expand Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) worldwide. The partnership builds on the success of Climate Earth’s EPD GeneratorTM digital platform, certifying Holcim’s ECOPact low-carbon concrete across North America. The partners will expand this platform globally, making it compliant with worldwide EPD standards and extending it to cement material solutions. Initial implementation has already succeeded in certifying Holcim’s entire cement portfolio in Germany, and is rapidly expanding to cover cement and ready-mix portfolios in additional countries around the world. As an independent verification system validating the environmental profile of a product, EPDs are key to accelerating low-carbon demand to decarbonize building at scale.
Edelio Bermejo, Head of Global R&D: “Transparency is key in Holcim’s journey to net zero. In Climate Earth we have found an ideal partner to provide reliable online EPD information to our customers, empowering them to build low-carbon in a transparent and verified way. By expanding Climate Earth’s EPD GeneratorTM worldwide, we will accelerate the third party validation of our low-carbon solutions to deploy them at scale.”
Chris Erickson, President and CEO of Climate Earth: “We are delighted to be working with Holcim on this critical project. Holcim has proven to be an innovative and visionary partner, showing a deep commitment to reaching net zero and an understanding of the strategic role that advanced software must play in measuring and managing the transition.”
The EPD GeneratorTM is a sophisticated and easy-to-use tool that verifies embodied carbon, helping building materials suppliers and customers manage and reduce the footprint of their products and projects. To date, Climate Earth has generated over 50,000 third party verified EPDs for ready-mix concrete. Climate Earth is the main provider of on-demand, digital EPDs for the concrete industry, and the leader in the sector with 95% of all concrete EPDs in North America issued by them.
