World's first Ductal® UHPC waffle deck panel bridge in Iowa

10 May 2012

Measuring 18.2 meters (60 ft) long by 10 meters (33 ft) wide, the Little Cedar Creek Waffle Deck Bridge in Iowa is the world's first waffle deck panel bridge made with LafargeHolcim's Ductal® ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) connected with field-cast UHPC joints.

LafargeHolcim's Ductal® concrete is an extremely dense and durable material, providing excellent solutions for bridge construction due to its chlorides and carbonation resistance.

In addition, Ductal® joint fill offers superior strength, durability, resiliency, fluidity and increased bond capacity. In 2012, this demonstration project won the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Design Award and a Portland Cement Association (PCA) Bridge Design Award of Excellence.
