Why ECOPlanet?


With 70% of the global population expected to live in cities by 2050, the world needs to build the equivalent of New York City every month. ECOPlanet, the world’s broadest range of low-carbon cement, aims to tackle this challenge sustainably by reducing emissions from cement by at least 30%.

With Holcim’s industry-leading formulation expertise, ECOPlanet’s sustainability profile is driven by innovative low-emission raw materials. We use calcined clay and recycled construction demolition materials in our ECOPlanet formulations to reduce buildings’ CO2 footprint by up to 50%. By leveraging alternative fuels we can further decarbonize the ECOPlanet production process.

We are harnessing advanced technologies like carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) to produce ECOPlanet Zero fully decarbonized cement.

Egypt’s flagship project uses 8,200 tons of ECOPlanet

ECOPlanet low-carbon cement contributed to the construction of the Alamein Downtown Towers project in Egypt. Using 8,200 tons of ECOPlanet enabled a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions, in line with the “Egypt 2030” sustainability strategy.

ECOPlanet reduces CO2 by 45% at Egyptian port

ECOPlanet low-carbon cement was the building material of choice for the extension of the Al-Ain El-Sokhna Port in Egypt. The highly demanding infrastructure project has already reduced CO2 emissions by 45% thanks to ECOPlanet.

Seattle’s iconic Spheres save 400 tons of CO2 with ECOPlanet

Built with ECOPlanet, the Spheres building in Seattle is a unique workplace, home to a living rainforest. ECOPlanet enabled an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions and the building was awarded LEED Gold certification.
