Holcim is committed to respecting and promoting human rights in our operations and activities, business relationships and in the communities where we work. Respect for human rights is fundamental to our ability to do business across our 2,300 sites and value chain in 60 countries. We clearly and actively communicate our human rights expectations of employees and business partners through our Human Rights and Social Policy. The Holcim Human Rights Approach outlines how we implement our commitment to human rights. The aim of our approach is to ensure systematic identification, prevention, mitigation, monitoring and remediation of potential or actual risks and impacts to people. This is supported by targets to further embed our human rights approach at site level through ongoing due diligence, focus on salient risks, stakeholder engagement, impact assessments and increased training.

We are part of the global solution when it comes to sustainable development for people and the planet, and we therefore go beyond holding a local-level social license to operate. Over the past five years, we have invested over CHF 200 million in creating positive social impact, benefitting 30 million people around the world. In 2021, we contributed CHF 43 million to social initiatives. Around 3,000 employees throughout the Group spent over 26 000 hours on volunteering programs in their local communities.

We commit to contributing CHF 500 million to create positive social impact, cumulative from 2021 to 2030 by leading affordable housing and infrastructure programs, as well as community initiatives on education, health and skill development.

As a company working across 2,300 sites in 70 countries, upholding human rights is at the core of our business model and success. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with our people and communities to ensure we thrive together. I encourage all to join us to build a smarter, greener world that works for all.
