India: construction of infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games

From Africa to Asia via the West Indies, the Commonwealth member nations represent 30 % of the world's population. That type of sports event requires space and special infrastructure!


The state of Delhi, which hosted the Commonwealth Games from October 3rd to 14th 2010, undertook the construction of various wide-ranging projects.

LafargeHolcim in India won the contract for the construction of 3 facilities:

  • The Talkatorasports hall: 35 % of VAP Mega®Fill concrete was supplied to renovate the sports hall which will host the combat sports.
  • The Indira Gandhistadium: the BU supplied 65 % of the concrete required to construct the stadium which will host the volleyball, badminton and gymnastics competitions.
  • The Shivajistadium: 6000 m3 of VAP Mega®Fill were supplied for the project over 12 months. This stadium will host the football competition.
