A great example is the development of the Cemento Maestro, a specialty binder designed to increase the workability, quality of finishing and durability of masonry works. The product was launched in Mexico in 2014 and earlier this year replicated in Ecuador and Colombia. Holcim Maestro has a low clinker factor of 35 % and therefore a low CO2 footprint compared to other alternatives. In addition, Holcim Maestro’s higher strength per square meter generates savings in the material used and its high workability makes it easier to apply, reducing the effort in the labor used. The efforts to launch and replicate this range of “low carbon cement” is underpinned by strong ties with the Group’s innovation center in Lyon paired with a powerful local R&D network of scientists and labs.
