Lafarge Roofing Division opens two new plants in Poland and in Turkey

28 June 1999

Lafarge Braas Roofing, the Roofing division of the Lafarge Group, has recently opened a new plant in Poland dedicated to production of roof tiles. Located in Plonsk, outside of Warsaw, the site can produce an annual volume of over 30 million roof tiles. It supplements Lafarge Braas Roofing industrial capacity in Poland, which started operations in 1996 with its plant at Opole.

This inauguration comes shortly after another tile manufacturing plant came on stream at Gebze, outside of Istanbul, in Turkey. It is equipped with state-of-the-art production technology and has an annual capacity of 15 million roof tiles.

This development will allow Lafarge Braas Roofing to strengthen its positions as world leader in roofing materials and chimneys systems, taking full benefit from growth in the concrete roof tile market.

Lafarge Braas Roofing employs 12,000 people on over 200 sites worldwide, and has sales of 10.3 billion French francs (1.6 billion euros). The Roofing division of the Lafarge Group, which is established in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and France, is now boosting its investment in newly industrialized countries including the Czech Republic, Russia, China, South Africa, Brazil, Poland and Turkey.

World leader in construction materials, Lafarge currently holds top-ranking positions in each of its divisions: Cement, Aggregates & Concrete, Roofing, Gypsum and Specialty Products. The Group employs 66,000 people in over 65 countries and in 1998 recorded sales of 64.3 billion French francs (nearly 10 billion euros).
