CARBON HUB CPT01

The Carbon Hub CPT01 carbon capture and storage (CCS) project will be installed at Holcim’s cement plant in Câmpulung, Central Romania. It will enable Holcim to produce 2 million tons of near-zero cement per annum.

The EU Innovation Fund has selected Carbon Hub CPT01 for a grant of €144 million to co-finance the build and operation of the capture installation, complementing substantial co-investment by Holcim and its partners.

CARBON HUB CPT 01 AT A GLANCE

  • Around 2 million tons of near-zero cement produced annually

  • End-of-pipe PSA and cryogenic carbon capture

  • 2M tons of near-zero cement per annum

  • EU Innovation Fund

  • Eastern Europe's first full-scale onshore CCS project

  • Capture, storage pathway

The technology

Eastern Europe’s first full-scale onshore CCS project, Carbon Hub CPT01 will use proven technology to separate CO2 from flue gases generated by the cement plant and our industrial partner, Carmeuse, which will then be transported for safe storage underground.

Holcim is leading a consortium of industrial and academic partners covering the full CCS value chain to realize the project, and is collaborating with Romanian research institutes and government agencies.
