Lafarge sales climb by 16.3% at June 30, 2000

Sales registered by Lafarge for the first six months of 2000 amounted to € 5,656 million, an increase of 16.3% from the € 4,862 million reported at June 30, 1999.

This growth in sales is derived from the following:

  • Underlying business growth of 7.1%
    All Divisions experienced strongth growth compared to the first six months of 1999: Cement: +6%, Agggregates & Concrete: +11%, Roofing: +5%, Gypsum: +4%, Specialty Products: +5%.

    Sales grew in the second quarter by 4.5%. Excellent business conditions were experienced in the majority of markets, in particular France, Spain, Morocco, North America and Brazil. Conditions have improved in the Philippines, however, sales were disappointing in Germany and the situation remains difficult in Turkey.


  • Net structural changes of 3%.
    Recent acquisitions contributed € 295 million of additional sales. The main contributors being Lafarge India, Lafarge Halla Cement in South Korea and Pioneer Plasterboard in Australia.

    Divestments amounted to a sales reduction of € 128 million, being principally the sale of the Flatroofing business in Germany and Lafarge Corporation's asphalt business in Maryland.


  • Positive foreign exchange impact of 6.2% arising principally from the appreciation of the US dollar.
