- Group region Europe (excluding UK) will be consolidated and led by current member of the Holcim Executive Committee Roland Köhler.
- Group region North America and UK will report to Bernard Terver who has been appointed member of the Holcim Executive Committee.
- Corporate functions that directly contribute to the program to strengthen customer excellence and cost leadership will be led within the newly created Project Management Office for the “Holcim Leadership Journey” by Urs Bleisch, who has been appointed Corporate Functional Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd. He will be reporting directly to the CEO of Holcim Ltd, Bernard Fontana.
- The Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Urs Böhlen will leave the Executive Committee and act as an advisor to the CEO of Holcim Ltd until his retirement next year.
- The Members of the Holcim Executive Committee Benoît-H. Koch and Patrick Dolberg will leave the Group.
Changes in regional responsibilities
Roland Köhler, member of the Holcim Executive Committee and currently CEO of Holcim Group Support Ltd, will assume responsibility for the newly structured Group region Europe. He is supported by three Area Managers, who are also members of senior management of Holcim Ltd:
- Urs Fankhauser, currently Area Manager for Eastern and Southeastern Europe, will assume responsibility for Western Europe, excluding UK.
- Kaspar E.A. Wenger, country manager Switzerland, will assume additional responsibilities for Southern Germany and Italy and has been appointed Area Manager.
- Horia Adrian, currently CEO of Holcim Russia, has been appointed Area Manager for Eastern and Southeastern Europe, including CIS/Caspian region.
Bernard Terver, currently Area Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd, as well as CEO of Holcim US and Aggregate Industries US, will assume overall responsibility for the new Group region North America and UK, and has been appointed member of the Holcim Executive Committee.
Javier de Benito, Area Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd, will directly lead Africa Middle East now including the Group’s positions in West Africa and the Arabian Gulf that have until now been run by Holcim Trading. He will also be responsible for the stakes in South and East Africa. He will be reporting directly to the CEO of Holcim Ltd.
Ian Thackwray, member of the Holcim Executive Committee, will remain responsible for East Asia, including China, the Philippines and Oceania, and in addition will take on responsibility for Holcim Trading S.A., Madrid, one of the worlds’ leading trading organizations for cement, clinker, and other materials.
The area of responsibility of Executive Committee members Paul Hugentobler, in charge of South Asia & ASEAN excluding the Philippines, and Andreas Leu, in charge of Latin America, are unchanged.
Urs Böhlen, member of the Holcim Executive Committee and currently responsible for Eastern and Southeastern Europe, CIS/Caspian region, will step down from this leadership function and act as an advisor to the CEO of Holcim Ltd until his retirement in 2013. The two members of the Holcim Executive Committee Benoît-H. Koch and Patrick Dolberg, responsible for North America, UK, Norway, Mediterranean (including Iberian Peninsula) as well as International Trade, and Western and Central Europe, respectively, will leave the Group. The Board of Directors and the Holcim Executive Committee thank these two longstanding members of the Executive Committee for their contributions to the success of the Group.
Changes in functional responsibilities
Under the leadership of Urs Bleisch, who is heading the newly created Project Management Office for the “Holcim Leadership Journey”, corporate functions that directly contribute to the program for strengthening customer excellence and cost leadership will be combined. Urs Bleisch has been appointed Corporate Functional Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd.
Ramit Budhraja, currently CEO of the South West Division of Indian Group company ACC Limited, will lead the Customer Excellence Initiative at Group level, effective October 1, 2012, and keep his current position until a successor is appointed. Becoming more customer-focused is a key driver to successfully deliver on the objectives of the “Holcim Leadership Journey”. He will report to Urs Bleisch.
Procurement and IT, as well as the newly created Mergers & Acquisitions function of Holcim Group Support Ltd will be reporting directly to Executive Committee member and CFO Thomas Aebischer.

Roland Köhler, Swiss national, born in 1953. Roland Köhler, a graduate in business administration from the University of Zurich, joined building materials group Hunziker, Switzerland, in 1988 as Head of Finance and Administration and transferred to Holcim Group Support Ltd as a management consultant in 1994. From 1995 to 1998, he was Head of Corporate Controlling and from 1999 to end 2001 Head of Business Risk Management. From 2002, he headed Corporate Strategy & Risk Management. In 2005, Roland Köhler was promoted to Corporate Functional Manager responsible for Corporate Strategy & Risk Management and in 2010 was appointed member of the Executive Committee and CEO of Holcim Group Support Ltd.
Bernard Terver, French national, born in 1952. He studied at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. In 1977, he joined cement producer CEDEST which was acquired by Holcim France in 1994. In 1999, Bernard Terver became CEO of Holcim Colombia and in 2003 he was appointed Area Manager for the Andes nations, Central America and the Caribbean. Since October 2008, he has been CEO of Holcim US, and in 2010 was additionally appointed CEO of Aggregate Industries US. In the same year, he also became Area Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd.
Urs Fankhauser, Swiss national, born in 1963, completed his education at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) in 1989. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked at the Institute for “Konstruktion und Bauweisen” at the ETH Zurich. Urs Fankhauser joined Holcim Group Support Ltd in 1991 as a process performance engineer. He was appointed General Manager of Holcim Croatia in 2002 and took over his role as Regional Technical Director Eastern Europe in 2004. In 2011, he was appointed Area Manager and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd. In this function, he was responsible for the markets in Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
Kaspar E.A. Wenger, Swiss national, born in 1959. He holds a degree in economics from the University of St. Gallen. Kaspar Wenger started his career at Holcim as a consultant at Holcim New Zealand in 1994. A year later, he became Chief Representative China at Holcim Ltd and from 1998 to 2000 acted as an assistant to a member of the Holcim Executive Committee. In 2000, he was appointed head of Marketing & Sales at Holcim Switzerland and in 2004 country manager.
Horia Adrian, Romanian national, born 1969. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Dunarea de Jos University in Romania and an MBA from the Ajou University in Suwon (South Korea). He joined Holcim Romania in 2001 as a Project Manager and became Sales & Marketing Director of Garadagh Cement in 2004. In 2007, Horia was appointed CEO of this company and in 2010 CEO of Holcim Russia.
Javier de Benito, Spanish national, born in 1958, studied business administration and economics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and undertook further studies at the Harvard Business School. He joined Holcim Trading in 1988. Along with responsibility for controlling at the subsidiary companies division and for business development, he took on the position of Deputy General Manager in 1992, with responsibility for the trading division. In 2003, he was appointed Area Manager for the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and West Africa.
Urs Bleisch, Swiss national, born 1960. He holds a master in business and economics from the University of Basel. He joined Holcim in 1994 as Head IT of Holcim Switzerland. Besides IT, he had the overall responsibility for the introduction of SAP in more than 70 legal entities. From 2000 onwards, he assumed Group-wide responsibility for information technology and was instrumental in the development and implementation of the global IT strategy for the Holcim Group. Since 2011, he has led the Information and Knowledge Management function at Holcim Group Support Ltd.
