“Performance with integrity” underpins Holcim’s Code of Ethics
Holcim’s NextGen Growth 2030 strategy is underpinned by our new Code of Ethics, which sets out how our 45 000 employees must perform with integrity based on five key principles: Compliance, Fairness, Care, Trust, and Respect.
As our CEO Miljan Gutovic says: "Performance with integrity is fundamental to making Holcim the leading partner for sustainable construction. It builds trust, protects our reputation and creates value for our people, customers and all other stakeholders.”
Every day, Holcim employees make decisions guided by clear policies, directives and procedures. The Code references these, and lays out a step-by-step process to help our people make decisions in more complex situations.
These range from ensuring compliance and seeking expert guidance, to evaluating reputational risks, reflecting on that “gut feeling” when making a decision, and speaking up to raise concerns relating to known or suspected misconduct.
To quote our Chief Compliance Officer, Christoph Harler: “A strong culture of performance and value creation depends on good decision-making. That’s why our new Code includes practical guidance to help our teams make the right choices with confidence.”
Holcim’s 5 principles of conduct
1. Compliance: Holcim supports legally compliant business practices as a minimum requirement for everything we do. We have a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption and avoid conflicts of interest. Holcim complies with anti-terrorism laws, economic and trade sanctions, and only engages with reputable partners to safeguard ourselves against money laundering.
2. Fairness: Holcim advocates for open markets and fair competition for the benefit of our customers and we grow our business fairly in compliance with antitrust and competition laws. We lobby external stakeholders, including public authorities, responsibly and transparently, and do not trade in securities using insider information, or share such information externally.
3. Care: As we build progress for people and the planet, our products must positively impact the value chain to ensure a safe, sustainable future. Health, safety and environment are top priorities for Holcim, while sustainability and innovation are at the core of our strategy. We invest to have a positive social impact on communities, and work to ensure we have a sustainable supply chain.
4. Trust: Trust is built over time through consistent behavior, and can be lost quickly. We’re committed to building trust with our stakeholders and to safeguarding the assets, interests and reputation of Holcim through: accurate books and records, protection of company assets, ensuring security and resilience and the responsible and secure use of digital technologies.
5. Respect: People are at the heart of our success. We’re committed to respecting human and labor rights wherever we conduct business, and to ensuring data privacy. Our purpose-driven culture recognizes diversity as a fundamental strength as we foster an inclusive working environment,
