Customized solutions to meet mining challenges in Ontario

1 January 2010

LafargeHolcim played a key role in transforming the Xstrata Kidd mine in Timmons, Ontario into one of the deepest base metal mines in the world.

Deep Mine was a major shaft construction project that extended operations between 1,980 and 2,895 meters.

LafargeHolcim designed and constructed a unique pre-mix operation in which concrete was batched at a plant next to the openings of two steel boreholes. Concrete was then transferred to the borehole and deposited 1,465 meters below ground. Via a transmixer, it was subsequently delivered another 915 to 1,220 meters deep.

We also delivered our wet shotcrete concrete and helped Xstrata design and construct a pastefill plant, which we continue to operate today.
