13 March 2014

Ready for the first match! The legendary Maracanã Stadium hosted the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games in style…with a stunning new makeover. To ensure its timely reopening, LafargeHolcim was there to provide concrete and accompanying logistics support.

Originally constructed for the 1950 World Cup, the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has been the place to be for football fans ever since. Renovated in time for the 2013 Confederations Cup, it recently underwent another revamp in anticipation of the 2014 World Cup final and the 2016 Olympic Games.

To ensure the Maracanã Stadium was ready in time, LafargeHolcim provided over 7,000 m3 of concrete on a rolling basis, used in improving fan access to the stadium. We guaranteed efficient and rapid delivery of our products by setting up a mobile plant close to the construction site. As a result, we were able to supply materials 24 hours a day and seven days a week…for two straight months!

Get ready sports fans: the Maracanã Stadium is a truly world-class venue that represents the best of Brazil!
