4 October 1999

LAFARGE and TITAN announce the construction of a new 1.5 million tones cement line in their Beni Suef Cement Plant, located at 120 km from Cairo. The two companies own 76% of Beni Suef Cement Company and will increase their share up to 95% in January 2000.

This investment is the first step of their strategy to develop Beni Suef Cement Company to a leading position in the Egyptian market and to respond to the increasing needs of the local market.

The new line will include the latest technologies in the cement making process and in the environmental protection. The cost of this new line should be around US$100 million (more than 90 million euros). The start-up is expected by mid 2002.
